Research in Contemporary World Literature (RCWL) is a quarterly, double-blind, peer-reviewed, open-access journal committed to publishing cutting-edge scholarship in modern and contemporary literature. Originally established in 1994 as the Journal of Foreign Languages and later renamed to reflect its current scope, RCWL considers only original and critical articles in English and Farsi that examine literary texts and movements emerging after 1945. Submissions focused on literature preceding this period fall outside the journal’s scope and will not be considered.

RCWL places particular emphasis on contributions that adopt comparative or interdisciplinary approaches and engage substantively with contemporary critical paradigms. These include—but are not limited to—postcolonialism, posthumanism, African literature, feminist theory, disability studies, ecocriticism, migration studies, and inquiries into underrepresented or marginalized voices.
