[English]

To this end, two plays were examined, "Zahak" by Gholam Hossein Sa'edi and "Infernal Machine" by Jean Cocteau. The findings of this study suggested that both of the authors paid attention to the myths of their culture, and they adapted their works, especially these two works under analysis, from these myths. Sa'edi, by recreating the myth story of Zahhak and Cocteau by recreating the Oedipus myth in their works, intended to show the conflict between contemporary man and the political system and fate. It was concluded that “Jamshid” myth that manifests as an intellectual myth in the story of Zahak can be considered as the personal myth of Gholam Hossein Sa'edi. Also, Oedipus myth chosen by Jean Cocteau which shows human disarmament against his fate, is like his own personal myth. Finally, according to the comparative analysis of the works of these two authors, some common features such as using drama for enlightenment, having satirical look at myth, using the fantasy literature, and paying attention to the death theme discovered.
