Imagology is an interdisciplinary branch within comparative literature that examines the representation of the "Other" in the literature of the "Self" culture, and conversely, the portrayal of the "Self" in the literature of the "Other." This field analyzes the formation, transmission, and influence of such images on individual and collective identities within the frameworks of language and culture. The present study, employing the theoretical framework of imagology, investigates the representation of the East in the works of Elchin Safarli (b. 1984), a contemporary Azerbaijani-Russian writer and journalist. Safarli’s Russian-language narratives, characterized by their emotive, multilayered simplicity, have garnered a distinctive position among contemporary bestsellers. The depiction of the East in Safarli’s oeuvre transcends mere geographic boundaries, functioning as a multifaceted symbol of identity, experience, and cultural relations that gains meaning within the context of intercultural dialogue, inviting readers into a richly emotional and nostalgic world. This research aims to explore the representation of the East as the image of the "Other" in Safarli’s works to deepen the understanding of contemporary cultural identity and literary migration discourse. It demonstrates that Safarli’s portrayal of the East emerges from a complex interplay of stereotypes, narratives, and sociocultural experiences, which collectively enable the reconstruction of a renewed and nuanced image of the "Other."
