Abstract
Ernst Jünger, one of the prominent German writers of the 20th century, who played an important role in shaping nationalist attitudes and founding and developing the idea of neo-nationalism by writing works on the sanctity of war and introducing war as the father of nationalism, first showed signs of retreat from war literature and intellectual contradiction in 1929 with his work The Adventurous Heart. The culmination of this intellectual conflict was the publication of a work titled Leaves and Stones in 1934, which included writings in which the author contrasted war with the world of ideas and spoke of his lack of determination to follow the political trends of the day in his literary works. This article seeks to extract the characteristics of this work from the writings included in it using a descriptive method and answer the question of what is Ernst Jünger's purpose in including contradictory writings in Leaves and Stones. The hypothesis is that Ernst Jünger seeks to instill in readers the idea that after Hitler came to power, he was hesitant about deciding to continue his political path as a propagandist of neo-nationalism and that his view in literary works, in addition to the political issues of the day, is also focused on purely literary topics.
