It is a study of the temporal and spatial possibility of fashioning Canadian identity in a postcolonial context. Literature, novel in particular, has always been an appropriate text for such an investigation. Therefore, Margaret Atwood’s third novel, Lady Oracle, (1976) is examined here. Atwood, the most recognized Canadian writer in the world of literature publicly and academically, wrote this novel when the question of identity was not only the current problem of Canadian writers and scholars but also the main concern of Canadian government and people. Like her first two novels, Lady Oracle also questions Canadian identity as a borderline case between apparently dominant British and American identities on the one hand, and as an independently voiced one in the world on the other. Following the main character’s textual footprints from her abandonment, concealment, and multiple identities to her revelation and unified identity, the study revisits one of the ways of fashioning identity in general and Canadian identity in particular. نوشته حاضر کندوکاو مفهوم هویت است، بررسی امکان شکل پذیری هویت کانادایی در ساحتی پسا استعماری. ادبیات و به ویژه رمان همواره بستری مناسب برای چنین جست وجویی است. در همین راستا، رمان بانوی پیشگو، سومین رمان مارگارت اتوود که نخستین بار به سال 1976 منتشر شد در این جا بحث می شود. این رمان در دوره ای نوشته شده است که پرسش هویت نه تنها مسئله روز نویسندگان و روشنفکران کانادا که دغدغه مردم و دولت کانادا نیزبود. بانوی پیشگو در امتداد دو رمان قبلی اتوود همچنان به دنبال طرح و پاسخ به مسئله هویت کانادایی در تقابل با هویت بریتانیایی و آمریکایی از یک سو و هویت شناسنامه دارکانادایی در دنیا از سویی دیگراست. این مقاله کوششی است تا با ردپای شخصیت اصلی رمان از سرگشتگی، مخفی کاری و کثرت هویت تا آشکار سازی و وحدت هویت هم قدم شود و به بازیابی یکی از راه های ساخته شدن هویت به طور کلی و هویت کانادایی به طور خاص بپردازد. https://jor.ut.ac.ir/article_64624_75fa21dacba8e6fc3f380d72c909e8ac.pdf
