To this end, notions like “identity” and “gender” are studied. It is argued that the re-emergence of “life narratives” in the multicultural era, despite its re-defined notion of the “self,” can only be traced back to prevalent neo-imperialist and Islamophobic inclinations in the West after 9/11. In other words, through foregrounding the hierarchy of “us vs. them,” such works perpetuate the recent neo-imperialist leanings in the West. However, the article’s attempt to disclose the effect of such works on the recent dissemination of Islamophobia in the West is complicated by the fact that even though Sasson’s “representation” of Saudi women would be considered to be affected by the neo-imperialist discourse, the fact, still, remains that they have been victimized by the suppressing Saudi regime.}, keywords = {life narratives,neo-imperialism,9/11,Jean Sasson,Multiculturalism}, title_fa = {نوستالژی امپراتوری در دخترک امریکایی در عربستان سعودی: بررسی ژانر شرح‌حال‌‌نویسی بعد از یازده سپتامبر}, abstract_fa = {مقالۀ حاضر به ‌بررسی مقولۀ «شرح‌حال‌نویسی» در دخترک امریکایی در عربستان صعودی (2012) اثر جین سسون می‌پردازد. نویسنده با رویکردی پسااستعماری و پساچندفرهنگی و با استفاده از‌ نظریات منتقدانی نظیر ادوارد سعید و سیدونی اسمیت در پی پاسخ به‌ این پرسش بنیادی است که رابطۀ گفتمان فرهنگی- سیاسی حاکم بر‌ جامعۀ امریکایی بعد از یازده سپتامبر با ‌ظهور مجدد شرح‌حال‌نویسی (به‌ عنوان نوع ادبی مدرنیسمی) چیست؟ بدین منظور دو مقولۀ هویت و جنسیت در اثر سسون بررسی شده است. چنین استدلال می‌شود که ترجیح نویسندگانی چون سسون در ‌استفاده از «شرح‌حال‌نویسی» در‌ دوران چندفرهنگ-گرایی پسامدرن، که در ظاهر دوران بازتعریف «خود» و رهایی از‌ گفتمان چیرۀ انسان‌گرایی لیبرال است، ریشه در گفتمان نئوامپریالیسمی و اسلام‌هراسی حاکم بر‌جامعۀ امریکایی بعد از یازده سپتامبر دارد. به‌ دیگر سخن، این آثار با ‌پررنگ کردن تقابل «خود/دیگری»، که لازمۀ ساختار سلسله‌مراتبی حاکم بین «شرق/غرب»، «ما/آنها» است، توانسته‌اند با‌ سیاست‌های نئوامپریالیسمی اخیر امریکایی همگام شوند و نقش پررنگی در‌ سیاست بین‌الملل بازی کند.}, keywords_fa = {جین سسون,شرح‌حال‌نویسی,چندفرهنگ‌گرایی,نئوامپریالیسم,یازده سپتامبر,دخترک آمریکایی}, url = {https://jor.ut.ac.ir/article_64620.html}, eprint = {https://jor.ut.ac.ir/article_64620_22251edc6cd513f28e82ddfaafb19de4.pdf} }
